【摘要】:Thistestmethodmeasurestheairspacesofpeatandthemoisture-holdingcapacityoneitheramassand/oravolumebasisunderconditionsofsaturation.Iflargespacesarepresent,waterandaircanpenetrateeasily.Ifspacesaresmaller,thewaterholdingcapacityisincreased.Waterholdingcapacityislargerinhumifiedpeatmaterials(smallinter-particulatespaces),whereaswaterandair-penetrationislargerinunhumifiedpeat(largerinter-particulatespaces).Thespacescanalsobeaanindicationoftheoxygenavailabletotheplantroots.Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting/sampling/inspection/etc.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thistestmethodwasdesignedtoevaluatetheaeration,waterpenetration,andwaterretentionpropertiesofpeatunderfieldconditionsofwatersaturation.1.2Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
