【摘要】:Riprapiscommonlyusedtopreventerosionofunderlyingmaterialsduetotheeffectsofrainrunoff,wind,flowingwater,orwaveaction.Theparticlesizedistribution(massofparticles)isanimportantphysicalcharacteristicofriprap,asdiscussedinD6825.Thesetestmethodsprovideagradationofthematerialgraphicallyrepresentedaspercentfinerthantheparticlemass.Ifagradationcanbeestablishedoracceptedonthebasisofonlymaximumandminimumparticlesizes,thenitmaynotbenecessarytoestablishthecompletegradationinaccordancewiththesetestmethods.Thesetestmethodscanbeusedduringevaluationofapotentialsource,asameansofproductacceptance,orforassessmentofexistinginstallations.MethodDisnotrecommendedasameansofproductacceptance.Othercharacteristicsofinterest,suchasparticleshape,particleangularity,orvisuallyevidentrockdurabilitycharacteristicsmaybedeterminedduringtheperformanceofthesetestmethods.Interpretationoftestresultsmustconsidertherepresentativenessofthesample.Note28212;TheagencyperformingthesetestmethodscanbeevaluatedinaccordancewithPracticeD3740.Notwithstandingstatementsonprecisionandbiascontainedinthesetestmethods:Theprecisionofthesetestmethodsisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingitandthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting.UsersofthesetestmethodsarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfensurereliabletesting.Reliabletestingdependsonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thesetestmethodscovertheparticlesizeandmassanalysisofnaturalandman-maderiprapandrelatedmaterials,includingfilterstoneorcoarsebeddingmaterials.1.2Thesetestmethodsaregenerallyintendedforriprapandrelatedmaterials.Theyareapplicableformixturesofstonesscreenedfromnaturaldeposits,blastrock,processedmaterialsfromquarriedrock,orrecycledconcrete.Theyareapplicableforsizes3in.(75mm)andabove,withtheuppersizelimitedonlybyequipmentavailableforhandlingandweighingtheindividualparticles.1.3Fouralternateproceduresareprovided.Thereisawiderangeinthelevelofeffortandtheprecisionofthetestprocedures.Itisimportantforspecifierstoindicatethetestprocedure.Testreportsshouldclearlyindicatewhichprocedurewasused.Note1Whileconductingthesetestmethods,itmaybeconvenienttocollectdataonotherattributes,suchastheamountofslabpiecesanddeleteriousmaterials.1.4AllobservedandcalculatedvaluesshallconformtotheguidelinesforsignificantdigitsandroundingestablishedinPracticeD60261.5Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Themetricequivalentsofinch-poundunitsgiveninparenthesesmaybeapproximate.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.SpecificprecautionarystatementsaregiveninSection7.
