【摘要】:ThisCodeofPracticedealswiththeinvestigationofsitesforthepurposesofassessingtheirsuitabilityfortheconstructionofcivilengineeringandbuildingworksandofacquiringknowledgeofthecharacteristicsofasitethataffectthedesignandconstructionofsuchworkandthesecurityofneighbouringlandandproperty.Ithasbeenassumedthatintheselectionofconstructionsitesdueregardhasbeenpaidtothewiderenvironmentalandeconomicconsiderationsaffectingthecommunitygenerally.Morethanonesitemayrequiredetailedinvestigationbeforethefinalchoiceismade.Inthiscode,theexpressionSiteInvestigationhasbeenusedinitswidersense.Itisoftenusedelsewhereinanarrowsensetodescribetheexplorationoftheground,whichinthiscodehasbeentermedGroundInvestigation.Itistobenoted,however,thatalthoughthetreatmentofgroundinvestigationisdetailed,thetreatmentofotheraspectsofsiteinvestigationislessdetailed.Theuseofsoilandrockasconstructionmaterialsistreatedonlybriefly;furtherinformationisgiveninBS6031.Thiscodeofpracticeconsistsofthefollowingsections:—Section1:Preliminaryconsiderations;—Section2:Groundinvestigations;—Section3:Fieldinvestigations;—Section4:Fieldtests;—Section5:Laboratorytestsonsamples;—Section6:Descriptionofsoilsandrocks;—Section7:Reportsandinterpretation.Section1dealswiththosemattersofatechnical,legalorenvironmentalcharacterthathaveusuallytobetakenintoaccountinselectingthesite(orindeterminingwhetheraselectedsiteissuitable)andinpreparingthedesignoftheworks.Section2discussesgeneralaspectsandplanningofgroundinvestigations,includingtheinfluenceofgeneralconditionsandgroundconditionsoftheselectionofmethodsofinvestigation.Sections3,4and5discussmethodsofgroundinvestigation,sub-dividedasfollows:section3excavation,boring,sampling,probingandtestsinboreholes;section4:fieldtests;section5:testsonsamples.Thedivisionbetweensections3and4issomewhatarbitraryandhasbeenbasedmainlyonconvenienceinarrangingthesubjectmatter.Section6dealswiththeterminologyandsystemsrecommendedforuseindescribingandclassifyingsoilandrockmaterialsandrockmasses.Section7dealswiththepreparationoffieldreportsandfinalboreholelogs,theinterpretationofthedataobtainedfromtheinvestigationandthepreparationofthefinalreport.UsersofthisCodeofPractice,particularlythoseoflimitedexperience,areadvisedagainstreferringtothemethodsofgroundinvestigationinsections3,4and5withoutstudyingthepreliminaryconsiderationsinsections1and2.Itshouldbeappreciatedthatthedescriptionofamethodisonlytobeconsideredasaguideandshouldnotbetakenasmandatory.Inthisrespect,itshouldberealizedthatdevelopmentcontinuestotakeplaceinvolvingchangesinsomeofthemethods.Itmaybenotedthatthereisanimbalanceoftreatmentbetweentests;insomecasesmorecomprehensivetreatmenthasbeengiventotestslessfrequentlyused.Thisisbecausemanyofthecommontestsaredescribedextensivelyelsewhere(seeBS1377),whereasthereisapaucityofreferencetoothertests.ThecodehasbeendrawnupinrelationtoconditionsexistingintheUnitedKingdom,butoccasionalreferenceismadetoconditionsoverseaswherethishasappeareddesirable.
